What a bunch of losers. They need an invisible friend, an\r\ninvisible daddy to comfort them in this tough world!<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Now, when I look back at that time I only partially changed my\r\nmind. Let me explain what I mean.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>You see, you ought to understand why we need Jesus. The bible says\r\n<i>\u201cThere is no-one righteous, not even one [no-one meets God\u2019s standard]; there is no-one who\r\nunderstands; there is no-one who seeks God\u201d<\/i> Roman 3:10-11 (nivuk).\r\nThe thing is that we actually turned our backs on God. It makes you\r\nthink, right? What would God\u2019s opinion be about us?<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Let\u2019s see how God looks at us. The bible gives us an interesting story in\r\nwhich Jesus explains a bit about our situation. Jesus had this habit\r\nto hang out with people that were seen as outcasts. Some even called\r\nthese people \u2018sinners\u2019 to their face. The religious leaders\r\ndidn\u2019t believe who Jesus was. They just couldn\u2019t believe a man of\r\nGod would eat with bad people like tax-collectors and other sinners.\r\nThey asked Jesus&#8217; disciples why He did that (Matthew\r\n9: 11). Before the disciples could answer Jesus said the following:\r\n<i>\u201cIt is not the healthy who need a doctor, but those who\r\nare ill. But go and learn what this means: \u2018I desire mercy, not\r\nsacrifice.\u2019 For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners\u201d<\/i>\r\nMatthew 9: 12-13.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>So, in other words: God looks at us as if we are sick. We have a\r\ndisease and it has infected everyone. What do you need when you are\r\nsick. Yes, sleep and a doctor\u2026 I love to sleep, but sleep isn\u2019t\r\nthe cure, Jesus is! Only He can cure us there is in doctor on this\r\nworld who can help us except He. So, in that sense I believe we are\r\nweak. But not only Christians are weak. No, that is where I changed\r\nmy mind when I became a believer. Now I know that Christians are\r\nthose who admit they need to be saved. We are all sinners and we all\r\nneed a Saviour. Isaiah wrote <i>\u201cSurely he took up our pain <\/i><i>and\r\nbore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken\r\nby him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he\r\nwas crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace\r\nwas on him, and by his wounds we are healed\u201d<\/i> Isaiah 53:4-5\r\n(nivuk).<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>You see, when I thought that Christians were wimps, who needed a\r\nsky-daddy, I really had the assumption that all Christians were dumb,\r\nuneducated, flimsy, depressed people who had no fun in life. You\r\nknow, those people who join a club \u2014 church in this case \u2014 in a\r\ndesperate attempt to make friends. Now, I know that this is simply\r\nnot true. Christians are ordinary people from every social\r\nbackground. Some are shy, some are brave, some introvert, others\r\nextravert. Some are strong and others have to drive around in a\r\nwheelchair. Some talk too much, some could say a bit more. Some are\r\ntrendy others not. Still, they all have one thing in common. They\r\nknow they are in need of a Saviour.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>So, how about you? How tough are you? Let me quote John in his\r\nfirst letter:<br\/>\r\n<i>\u201cIf we claim that we\u2019re free of sin,\r\nwe\u2019re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense.\r\nOn the other hand, if we admit our sins\u2014make a clean breast of\r\nthem\u2014he won\u2019t let us down; he\u2019ll be true to himself. He\u2019ll\r\nforgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing. If we claim that\r\nwe\u2019ve never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God\u2014make a liar out\r\nof him. A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God\u201d<\/i>\r\n1 John 1:8-10 (the Message).<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is what I thought about Christianity before I became a Christian.
