God is the Creator of all things and as such He is concerned\r\nwith the world. We can read the creation account in the book Genesis.\r\nIt is very interesting to read how He intentionally and specific\r\ncreated and formed the world. And finally, as crown of His work, He\r\ncreated Adam and Eve. He looked at His work and labelled it as very\r\ngood.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Just by this last statement alone you can see that the world mattered to Him.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>Task of Adam and Eve<\/h3>\r\n<p>God told Adam and Eve to take care of the earth, they had to tend\r\nto its needs. But instead of obeying God they actually ignored His\r\nword. They started to live for their own enjoyment. Sin came into the\r\nworld and not long after we can read that we humans would only live\r\nby the sweat of our brow.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Genesis 3:19 <i>\u201cBy the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground\u201d<\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>Everything Adam and Eve had to do became hard work.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>Tenants of God\u2019s earth<\/h3>\r\n<p>Still, as tenants of God\u2019s earth we have to look after it. This is not debatable. The Bible is pretty clear on this.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>People are not allowed to mistreat animals.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-left: 12.51mm\">Proverbs 12:10 <i>\u201cA righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.\u201d<\/i> (KJV) <\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-left: 12.51mm\">Exodus 23:5 <i>\u201cIf you see the donkey of one who hates you lying down under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it;\r\nyou shall rescue it with him.\u201d<\/i> (ESV)<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-style: normal\">The Bible also states that vegetation\r\nand trees are to be protected, even in wartime. Other ancient near\r\neast societies systematically cut down whole orchards and burn crops\r\nof the enemy to make sure they would run out of food.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-left: 12.51mm\">Deuteronomy\r\n20:19 <i>\u201cWhen you besiege a city for a long time,\r\nmaking war against it in order to take it, you shall not destroy its\r\ntrees by wielding an axe against them. You may eat from them, but you\r\nshall not cut them down. Are the trees in the field human, that they\r\nshould be besieged by you?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>People are more Important<\/h3>\r\n<p>However, we need to remember that\r\npeople are more important for God than things, even more important\r\nthan His own creation. We see an example of God\u2019s love for people\r\nin the story of Jonah. This prophet had to warn the people of Nineveh\r\nagainst God\u2019s wrath. Jonah sat down and expected God to destroy\r\nNineveh. The plant that kept Jonah out of the burning sun withered\r\nand we see that Jonah\r\nwas more concerned with the\r\nplant than with the people of Nineveh. The Lord said in Jonah 4:\r\n10-11 <i>\u201cYou are concerned about a vine that you did\r\nnot plant or take care of, a vine that grew up in one night and died\r\nthe next. In that city of Nineveh there are more than a hundred and\r\ntwenty thousand people who cannot tell right from wrong, and many\r\ncattle are also there. Don&#8217;t you think I should be concerned about\r\nthat big city?\u201d<\/i><\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>Distribution<\/h3>\r\n<p>The fact that God is more concerned with people should not make us\r\nthink that He doesn\u2019t care about the way we live our lives. It\r\ncannot be right that people in one part of the world waste all\r\nresources while people in other parts endure hardships like sickness\r\nor starvation. Again the Bible\u2019s teaching is clear on this.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-left: 12.51mm\">Proverbs 21:13 <i>\u201cWhoever closes\r\nhis ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be\r\nanswered.\u201d<\/i> (ESV)<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-left: 12.51mm\">Isaiah 58:10 <i>\u201cIf you pour\r\nyourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,\r\nthen shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the\r\nnoonday.\u201d<\/i> (ESV)<\/p>\r\n\r\n<h3>New World<\/h3>\r\n<p>God is concerned with us and the rest of His creation. We see His\r\nconcern through His promise to create a new earth. You see this world\r\nhas become corrupt to the bone. Sure, good things happen all the time\r\nbut it is not nearly as beautiful as in the beginning. God\u2019s\r\npromise to make everything new is very important for Christians but\r\nit is not a wild cart to do whatever they want. Christians are called\r\nto honour God through their lifestyles. That means that Christians\r\nshould care for the environment. However, this care should come forth\r\nout of love for God. The climate-change lobby is not focussed on\r\nGod\u2019s honour. It has become a religion in itself. Worshipping\r\nanything else than God is considered blaspheming. \r\n<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>So, Christians need to get their priorities right.<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p style=\"margin-left: 12.51mm\">Mark 8:36 <i>\u201cFor what does it\r\nbenefit a man to gain the whole world [with all its pleasures], and\r\nforfeit his soul?\u201d<\/i> (AMP)<\/p>\r\n\r\n<p>It is fine to take care of your surroundings, to separate your\r\nwaste, not to eat too much meat, to help with good initiatives\r\nregarding the poor etcetera. But don\u2019t forget to honour and glorify\r\nyour Creator.
