Why is everyone keeping quiet about Islam? In my previous video, I discussed the woke movement both inside and outside the church. In that video, I already hinted that, besides woke ideology, I am not a fan of Islam either. With astonishment, I watch demonstrations, read columns, see universities, and hear interviews where people loudly insist that we must not be Islamophobic. Whenever a terroristic attack takes place, it seems that every effort is made to prevent the conclusion from pointing towards this religion.
Even within the churches, some are beginning to echo this sentiment. Some Christians seem more critical of their own faith than of Islam. Why do we so often hesitate to speak honestly about reality—even when it is uncomfortable?
While working on this video, I noticed that Dutch YouTuber Chris Verhagen had just released a video on the same theme. Clearly, this is not something that concerns only me, but many others as well. That is why it seems good to take a closer look together at what the Bible says, what reality shows us, and why silence is not the same as love for our neighbour.
Truth as the Foundation
John 14:6
Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’
Everything we say as Christians must begin with this question: what is true? Not what feels politically correct, not what feels socially safe, but what is true.
Ephesians 4:15
Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.
This means that looking away is not a loving attitude. But we must speak in love—not out of hatred. We are called to be honest about truth, even when it is uncomfortable.
Ideology vs. The Person
Whenever I talk about Islam, I almost immediately hear that someone has a neighbour, colleague, or classmate who is Muslim, followed by the remark: “He’s actually a really nice guy!” This is one of the biggest misunderstandings. An individual Muslim can be kind, respectful, and sincere, but an individual experience says nothing about the truth of a religious doctrine or worldview.
Another common argument is that radical Muslims are only a very small minority and that the vast majority are peaceful. That may be true, as many people simply want a quiet and stable life. Yet the question remains: if radicals are such a small minority, why do we hear so little from the majority? Why is there not a visible, large-scale opposition?
The problem is not only the existence of radicals, but also the lack of visible resistance from the larger group. This is also a problem among Christians, though in a different way. Why is it always a small group that stands up for the unborn or speaks out against immorality? Where is the majority? Together we would be much stronger. Silence is not an option.
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
The distinction must remain clear: Islamic ideology is not automatically representative of individuals. Otherwise, we fall into personal attacks instead of meaningful discussion.
Persecution of Christians
If we separate this discussion from personal experiences, we do not have to look far to see what this religion produces globally. Christians are persecuted worldwide, especially in countries where Islam is dominant. In countries such as Afghanistan, Somalia, and Pakistan, openly practising Christianity can be life-threatening. Converts risk exclusion, violence, or even death.
In this article, we will let the Qur’an speak for itself.
Qur’an 9:29
Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture – [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.
Most Muslim scholars will state that those who refuse to pay this tax may be fought. Traditionally, under Islamic rule, Christians had three choices: convert to Islam, pay the jizyah and live as second-class citizens, or face death.
Qur’an 9:33
It is He who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to manifest it over all religion…
This marked the continuation of expansion, through which large parts of the Christian world were conquered. This is not a political opinion, but a reality reported by organisations such as Open Doors and human rights institutions.
Persecution, Not Approval
2 Timothy 3:12
In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
This is a description of reality, not an approval of it. Persecution arises because the world stands in conflict with the gospel.
“But Christians Did It Too!”
Matthew 5:44
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
While the Church has committed wrongs in history, these actions contradict the teachings of Christ. Forcing belief through violence is not Christian.
Joshua 24:15
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…
Matthew 22:37
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
The Bible nowhere teaches that faith should be imposed by force. Faith is always a matter of the heart.
Qur’an 3:85
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.
Recent Attacks on Jewish Institutions
Recent incidents in the Netherlands show that antisemitism is also present here. At the same time, we must acknowledge that hatred of Jews comes from multiple directions, including activist movements, radical left-wing groups, and certain Islamic circles.
Yet the reality is clear: explicit antisemitism is strongly present within certain Islamic ideologies, and this must be addressed honestly.
Immigration & Ideology
Migration brings different cultures and beliefs. While this can be enriching, religious ideas do have an impact. Not every migrant seeks to change society, but within Islam there are movements that aim to unite religion and state.
Many have fled societies dominated by Islamic law, where life can be difficult for women, Christians, and critics. While many want to build a peaceful life, there are also those who misuse freedom while rejecting the values that make that freedom possible.
Afghan Christian Women and Return
For Afghan women who have converted to Christianity, returning to Afghanistan is life-threatening. Apostasy can lead to exclusion, violence, or death. That is why organisations such as Open Doors oppose forced return.
This is a human and moral issue, not merely an administrative one.
Test the Spirits
1 John 4:1
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God…
This is our calling: to test everything against God’s Word, not to blindly accept what is culturally or politically popular.
Conclusion
We must not be naïve. We must not ignore reality. And we must not remain silent out of fear of labels. Islam, as an ideology, clashes with the gospel, and this has consequences for society.
Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world…
Our struggle is not against people. The Muslim is not our enemy, but our neighbour—someone who, like every person, needs Christ.
Matthew 28:19
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…
If we only warn but do not share the gospel, we are not fulfilling our calling. Truth without love becomes harsh, and love without truth becomes empty. We are called to both.
So let us not remain silent, but neither become hardened. Speak the truth and proclaim the gospel, for in the end, that is the only thing that truly saves.
